Size: Area rugs come in just about any size. From a small door mat to a very large 12 foot by 12 foot area rug, you can find any size. Choose the correct size for your needs. The most common problem I have seen is choosing an area rug too small for a particular area or room. |

As a very general rule when shopping for an area rug...err on the side of BIGGER than smaller - better to be too big than too small. Colours: What can I say about the colours of area rugs...They are available in just about any colour and style. I find that some classic Persian rugs work well in many decorating environments. Persian rugs often use a deep red color as the base. The famous Persian & Oriental rug style referred to as the Tabriz is a popular, classic style worldwide. Modern area rugs are also widely available. Geometrics in bold, vivid colors are great choices for modern and contemporary rooms. |

Fiber Content: Wool, cotton and acrylic are the most common fibers used in making area carpets. Wool is the BEST...by far! An area rug made with wool can expect to last for many, many years...providing it has been cared for properly. This means regular vacuuming and cleaning. Dirt is an enemy of any wool area rugs. Cotton is often combined with wool to make an area rug, and these rugs can expect to behave similar to wool carpets. |

Acrylic area carpets are the least expensive area rugs...and when it comes to area rugs, you do get what you pay for. Before you buy an acrylic rug, just be sure to know what you are getting. They can't be expected to look great for an extended time. They also do not have the softness of wool or cotton. But, for the price differential, they may be just what you need.
