We all know the horror stories of removing old wallpaper - well, at least, most of us do.

I remember the heavy, wet and hot steam machine I used to remove some bamboo-like wallpaper from a previous house. It was a nightmare of a mess and even with the heavy duty machine, the wallpaper still gave us a challenge in removing it.

I tend to like using wallpapers either for a whole room, if it is a small room - like a powder room OR for a feature wall. This, of course, depends also on the wallpaper design.

For a feature wall, the more bold designs, whether large florals or geometric, are perfect. You get a big bang for the buck. The feature wallpapered wall then becomes your focal point. If you are lacking artwork, this may be a great solution to a room lacking a real focal point.

As for the installation of wallpaper, it can be done by the average handyman or handywoman. There is a lot of measuring required for the strip sizes and for the matching - which is crucial. Of all of the projects that I have done in my life, wallpapering is one of those that yes, I have done - but, I still prefer to leave it to a professional wallpaper installer.

If wallpaper is not installed properly, it may not look as good as it should.

It may have the dreaded wrinkles from not squeegeeing enough or it may not be lined up correctly and therefore, the pattern does not match. Don't spend the money on it if you can't get it installed properly or else, you may have wasted your money on the wallpaper itself.
